Tea Towel Tuesday Tutorial: Little One's Reading Pillow

I was trying to come up with a fun gift for a friend of mine that is having a baby, and decided to make her little one a reading pillow out of tea towels. My son is completely obsessed with BOOKS, and loves reading them anytime and anywhere.  I thought this little pillow would be a fun reading pillow for a game room, the kids room, or just anywhere around the house.  If your kid isn't as nerdy :) you can always use it as a lounging pillow, or for them to sit on while playing games, etc!

Tea Towel Reading Pillow Supplies:
2 Towels
Bag of stuffing/batting
Sewing machine
needle and thread
scissors

Step 1:
Pick out your tea towels, you will need 2 (1 for the front and 1 for the back).  The larger the tea towels the better!  I used our "I Love You Like Biscuits and Gravy" towel for one of the pillows I made, and used our "Flour Sack" towels for the second one I ended up making. (Biscuits and Gravy towel measures: 20x28 and the Flour Sack towels measure: 17x28)

Step 2:  Iron & Press both towels

Step 3:  Put right sides facing each other (wrong sides facing out).  Place pins....

Step 4:  Begin sewing.  I used the seams of the towels as my sewing guideline, and sewed right alongside it.  When you get to the bottom of the pillow leave 4" or 5" unsewn at the bottom so you can stuff the pillow later.

Step 5:  Turn Pillow right sides out, and grab your batting and STUFF to your hearts content!!  I used a ton of batting because I figure the more they sit on them and use them, they will need it, so it doesn't get completely flat!

Step 6:  Hand sew the opening together using a whip stitch, and use coordinating thread.

Step 7:  YOU ARE DONE, step back and smile at the cuteness you just created!

This may now officially be my favorite make-and-give gift for my friends, either for showers or little ones birthdays!  I am going to pair it with a couple of my favorite children's books and give it to them!  I hope you have fun making this as well!
